BA Law Degree at Aberystwyth University

M103 - 3 year BA Degree Scheme

BA Law [M103]

The BA (Law) degree allows students to combine Law with other subjects, to provide greater flexibility and choice.

Two thirds of the modules are taken in Law and, subject to timetable constraints, the remaining third can be chosen from any of the other Departments in the University. In order to ensure that popular combinations are catered for, a number of BA Law subject combinations have been established and given their own UCAS codes. These include BA Law with:

  • Mathematics (M1G1)
  • Economics (M1L1)
  • Politics (M1L2)
  • International Politics (M1LF)
  • Business and Management (M1N1)
  • Accounting and Finance (M1N4)
  • Marketing (M1N5)
  • Information Management (M1P1)
  • Welsh/Cymraeg (M1Q5)
  • Criminology (M1M9)

A degree in BA Law is a qualifying law degree: which means that graduates who wish to pursue a career in the legal profession are eligible to continue vocational training on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) for solicitors, or the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) for barristers.

BA Law and Employability

There are many employment prospects for you when you graduate with a degree in BA Law. The knowledge and skills acquired whilst studying for a degree in law, together with the additional focus on the chosen minor subject, equip you for the demands of many careers in politics and local government, business and the media as well as for entering either branch of the legal profession. For those graduates who wish to qualify as solicitors, Aberystwyth has its own Legal Practice Course within the Department of Law and Criminology.

Law Degree with a Language

Are you interested in languages? You can also do the BA Law Degree with a language.

The BA Law Degree with a language is 4 years long and will provide you with the opportunity to study law with one of three European languages. The languages are:

  • French [M1RC]
  • German [M1RF]
  • Spanish [M1RK]

The third year is spent studying in the Law Faculty of one of our partner institutions in a country of the language being studied. This year allows you to learn about another legal system and to acquire the necessary legal vocabulary in the language in question.
