Statistics Degrees at Aberystwyth

Statistics degrees are increasingly important. The growing complexity of modern life, and the emphasis on measurable results, have made an understanding of statistics vital within all sorts and sizes of organisation and institution, both in the public and private sectors. A degree in Statistics ideally equips you to contribute in this field, opening up an increasing range of career opportunities. As a student on one of the Statistics degree schemes at Aberystwyth you will study the fields of probability theory, statistical inference and operational research.   Probability is the study of random, or chance, phenomena to determine the type of behaviour that can be expected of a system subject to chance fluctuations. Statistical inference uses observational or experimental data to distinguish between chance variation and that due to identifiable causes. Operational research consists of topics such as linear programming and the theory of queues, arising in industrial and commercial problems.
