Degrees in Irish
(Joint Honours)
You can study Irish at Aberystwyth as half of a Joint Honours degree. Usually, you will study for four years, spending your third year at an Irish University. No prior knowledge of Irish is assumed. Although some orientation on the history and culture of the Celtic speaking peoples is given in your first year, the emphasis of the Irish course is on the language and literature of Ireland from the earliest times to the present day. There are optional modules on Scottish Gaelic, on comparative Celtic literature, and on the relationship between Irish and other Celtic languages. Welsh-speakers can take the modules through the medium of Welsh.
You can combine Irish with the subjects in the table below. Click on the UCAS Code link for more detail.
