General Information

What qualifications does Aberystwyth accept?

Credit where Credit is Due

In certain cases we can give credit for periods of study undertaken elsewhere. Students who possess relevant Open University credits or BTEC Higher National Diploma qualifications (with at least 3 merits in the final year units) or appropriate professional qualifications will be considered for direct entry to the second year of appropriate degree schemes. Similarly, we are prepared to consider students who have completed the first year at another institution of Higher Education who wish, for personal or academic reasons, to continue their studies at Aberystwyth. If you want to know more about the award of credit at Aberystwyth contact the Admissions Office.

HND and transfer to the Institute of Rural Sciences degree courses

If your academic progress on a HND scheme is to a satisfactory standard, then it is possible to transfer to the degree schemes offered by the Institute of Rural Sciences. The arrangement enables you to transfer to the degree scheme without the need to study for an additional year - If you achieve a relevant HND with 75% of the modules at merit grade or above (excluding common skills modules), you may enter the final year of an appropriate degree scheme in land based studies. This is also applicable to students who are studying at other institutions of higher education but who wish to transfer to Aberystwyth. Further details can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
