Degree Course Requirements - 2012 Entry

Applicants are selected on their individual merits, and offers can vary. To allow you flexibility in meeting our entry requirements, Aberystwyth uses the UCAS tariff to frame its offers. Provided they are included in the tariff, qualifications that you have already gained, or are working towards, will count towards the total number of points that you are asked to achieve. We have an inclusive policy which recognises not only A and AS levels, including General Studies, but also Key Skills at level 3. Ways in which you could meet the tariff offer, for example, are:

240 points
  • CCC at A level (if no other qualifications)
  • CDD at A level + 2KS at level 3
  • CDD at A level + C at AS
  • BC at A level + DD at AS
300 points
  • BBB at A level (if no other qualifications)
  • CCCD at A level
  • BCC at A level + 2 KS at level 3
  • BCD at A level + D at AS + 1 KS at level 3

For further details about the UCAS tariff please visit the UCAS website.

The following information provides a general indication of standard offers. These are typical offers based on an applicant offering 18 units (3 A levels) and above. For Joint Honours schemes, the specific point and subject requirements of both subjects will be used to make the offer. For Major-Minor Honours schemes (eg. International Politics with French), the offer will be that of the Major (first-named) degree scheme component, plus any specific subject requirements of the Minor (second-named) component. For further advice please contact the department concerned.

Other qualifications, e.g. Welsh Baccalaurate, Scotvec, Access, and overseas qualifications, are also welcomed for the purposes of entry. Applications from Access candidates and candidates not offering standard qualifications, but who have gained sufficient relevant work experience and skills, are encouraged. Candidates without qualifications will need to demonstrate strong motivation, ability and, in some cases, evidence of satisfactory background in areas relevant to the scheme of study proposed e.g. a background in Mathematics to study Mathematics. Offers to candidates without qualifications are made on an individual basis, and an interview may be required. For further advice, please contact the department concerned.

Don’t have sufficient points?

If you already have your A level or equivalent Level 3 qualifications and don’t have the necessary points, we may still be able to offer you a place or an individual assessment of your motivation and potential as well as your achievements to date. Please contact the Director of Recruitment and Admissions (hwd@aber.ac.uk) for advice.

Similarly, if you are sitting (or have sat) only 2 A levels and meet any A level prerequisites, then we may be able to make you an offer or accept you on the basis of your grades. Again, please contact us for advice.
