COSTS?

The course is FREE!

You will be provided with:

  • all necessary books and equipment
  • full board for residential students (lunch for non-residential students)
  • funds for travel
  • access to library and computing facilities
  • £25 per week attendance allowance

WHAT?

This course includes Key Skills and optional modules which can be chosen from a wide range of subjects.  There will also be a full programme of sports and social activities.

WHY?

This programme will not only prepare you for Higher Education but will also give you an opportunity to experience University life. All students who successfully complete the Aberystwyth Summer University will be offered a guaranteed progression route to an appropriate scheme at Aberystwyth University on condition that 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) are passed and any specific requirements are met.

You can apply for a place on the Summer University if:

  • you are at least 17 and can demonstrate the commitment and motivation to successfully complete the programme (mature students are also welcome to apply), and
  • you live or go to school / college in a Welsh communities first area, or are from a care / care leaver background, and
  • you are nominated by your School / youth Agency  / College of Further Education, and
  • you can demonstrate through your application form that you meet the criteria for the course shown below.

CRITERIA

Please note that places are limited and priority will be given to applications from students who satisfy the main Welsh Government priorities: those who live or go to school / college in a Welsh Communities First area and those from a care / care leaver background. Consideration will then also be given to those with / who :            

  • no family experience of Higher Education
  • family Income below £25,000
  • a long term illness adversely affecting performance
  • a specific personal / family event adversely affecting current performance (bereavement, divorce, etc.)
  • a disability (seen / unseen)
  • are a member of an underrepresented ethnic group
  • wish to study a subject at degree level where one gender is under-represented (for example, men wishing to study  Psychology, European languages, Childcare; women wanting to study Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics)
