The Maintenance Operatives of the Estates Department are responsible for the general day-to-day maintenance of the University’s buildings and infrastructure.
Our friendly and helpful team respond to calls made to our Helpdesk as well as contributing to our ongoing programme of Planned Preventative Maintenance.
The team consists of 4 main areas of expertise:-
Electrical |
Maintenance, testing and repair of electrical systems, fire and smoke alarms, fixtures and equipment; light replacement; etc.

Mechanical |
Maintenance and repair of heating/hot & cold water systems and boilers; upgrade and improvement of systems; gas safety testing; etc

Structural |
Bricklaying, plastering, plumbing, painting and decorating, carpentry, joinery, roads, paths, fences, signage, etc.

Stores |
Supplying tools, equipment, work-wear and consumables to trade staff within Operations and Maintenance Division. |
Our primary function is the maintenanceof the university's physical assets. Broadly speaking maintenance is divided into two distinct categories, namely Reactive and Planned.
Reactive Maintenance
Reactive maintenance is the notification of defects, faults or breakdowns reported by user departments on a daily basis.
Planned Maintenance
Planned Maintenance is necessary to avoid the breakdown of crucial plant and equipment (recurring), maintain safety standards as required under legislation (compliance) or activity which is scheduled and therefore intended to keep disruption to a minimum (programmed).
