Anglo-Norman in the National Archives
The
objectives of this project, in order of priority, are as follows:
- To extract from selected
documents in the National Archives attestations of hitherto unknown vocabulary
in the domains of shipping, building, crafts and trades, mining, fishing,
the cloth trade, etc..
- To provide directly to the AND project (cf. www.anglo-norman.net) material for
inclusion in the second edition.
- To identify a series of 200 or
so National Archives documents for a future edition of non-literary
Anglo-Norman texts.
- To demonstrate the importance
and the quantitative as well as qualitative impact of research of this
type in non-literary (archive) documents.
- To
exemplify the use of advanced digital technology in the service of mainstream
Humanities scholarship (the use of the computerised index of the National
Archives to locate sources, gleaning on the basis of the high-quality
images of Special Collection materials placed on-line by the National
Archives, and the technical infrastructure of the AND for analysis and
publication.)
