• Using the data provided, investigate, illustrate and discuss the key points of divergence in viewers' reactions to Brokeback Mountain (Ang 2005).
• Explore different ways in which erotic or romantic interaction between men have been handled on screen, comparing and contrasting with the portrayal of equivalent heterosexual interaction. What might the treatment of such themes be taken to say about sex and/or romantic love between men?
• Investigate and account for the popularity of particular contemporary films amongst gay audiences.
• In the video, The Celluloid Closet, Harvey Fierstein refers to having to 'translate' mainstream films so that they were more relevant to him as a gay viewer. Investigate the extent to which such translation still goes on amongst gay viewers.
• Investigate and account for the cult status of particular stars amongst gay audiences.
• Discuss the association of camp with homosexuality in film and/or television. Using examples, reflect on the possible reasons for this association and its results.
• Using the online commercials at The Commercial Closet compare, contrast and critically discuss the use of gay themes in British television ads with those of any other country.
