Module objectives / Learning outcomes
Enabling objectives :

After completing this module you should:

• have a good basic understanding of soil physics and be able to relate this understanding to degraded soils;
• be aware of the effect of different soil handling practices on soil physical conditions;
• be familiar with the principles of designing general field drainage schemes and the techniques involved;
• understand the range of land management options available on reclaimed land and their effects on soil rehabilitation;
• appreciate the principles underlying the design of isolation schemes for controlling contamination problems;
• understand relevant hydrology relating to surface and groundwater;
• be aware of the main options available for waste disposal with particular emphasis on potential problems related to landfill sites;
• be familiar with the principles and practice of land capability, habitat and soil resource surveys.
• Terminal objectives :
• To understand the science of soil physics and water movement, as required for the study to disturbed land. To be aware of the options available for isolating contaminants. To appreciate the important issues relating to disposal of wastes. To be capable of designing a land survey.
