Brief description
The module examines a variety of genres representative of the literature of the Augustan Age. Particular attention is paid to Virgil's Eclogues (pastoral) and Georgics (didactic), Horace's Satires (satire), Livy's History of Rome (historiography), Ovid's Metamorphoses (mythological epic), and Propertius (love elegy). No previous knowledge of Classical literature is required. All texts will be studied in translation.
