Brief description
The aim of this module is to understand the developments in drama and theatre in their historical and theatrical context in the last half of the 19th century. Special emphasis will be placed on the emergence of realism/naturalism in the play of Ibsen, Strindberg and Chekhov. The module also features the rise of the theatre director, and anti-realistic tendencies following the main wave of realism. The seminars will serve to deepen the information provided by the lectures. COMPULSORY FOR SINGLE AND JOINT HONOURS STUDENTS.
