Brief description
This module is divided into two parts:
the first part examines factors which influence the development of the child in the home, the community and the pre-school group;
the second part examines the transition from home or playgroup to school and places emphasis on the nature of the learning environment and its relevance to the development of skills.
In addition to the lectures each student will make two visits to a local playgroup or to a day nursery to experience and observe children at play. These practical visits are an important element in the course, illustrating many of the aspects covered in the lectures.
