Brief description
This module is open to all students - with little or no knowledge of the French language - regardless of their main subjects. Those taking it successfully in their first year in College could follow FR11320 in their second year and other French modules in their third year.

Aims and objectives
To offer students an opportunity to study French at university level, particularly as an adjunct to their main subjects, and with exchange programmes such as ERASMUS/SOCRATES in mind and an increase in labour mobility in Europe.

To make available to a wider constituency the cultural, personal, academic and vocational benefits of an awareness of a major European and international language.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have covered most chapters in 'Voila! A new course in French for adult beginners', and should be able to communicate on a basic level in spoken and written French.

Students will have acquired a basic knowledge about language in general as well as a basic grasp of French linguistic structures. Students will have been introduced to the cultural context in which those French structures are used.
