Brief description
This module examines the principles and problems involved in the provision of goods and services by governments. After a review of budgeting and decision styles associated with public administration, problems involved in public policy implementation and policy analysis are considered. The second half of the module focuses upon the radical changes brought about in government organisations by the extensive introduction of private business techniques and market forces - `the new public management'. The case material is drawn mainly from Britain, which has seen revolutionary changes in the public sector since the early 1980's.
