Module description
This student-centred module involves a 4 day field course where selected rural tourism enterprises are critically examined. Field reports on 4 selected rural tourism enterprises are prepared. Students will identify their information requirements through a combination of documentary and interview material.

The module integrates the core subjects of the first year programme and enables students to study the rural tourism industry at first hand.

Outcome 1
Investigate the development of rural tourism enterprises
Performance criteria:

• Describe the main objectives of the development of rural tourism enterprises
• Explain how the features of the development match the objectives
• Identify the sources of funding for the developments
• Explain how rural tourism enterprises market and promote their products

Identify the constraints and opportunities for rural tourism providers
Performance criteria:

• Identify the constraints affecting rural tourism providers
• Assess the opportunities affecting rural tourism providers
• Describe the methods that can be used to maximise benefits for rural tourism providers
• Describe methods which can be used to minimise disadvantages for rural tourism providers
