Aims of the module
To identify the key players who impact upon rural communities and recreation.
To identify the needs, impacts and interactions of the visitor and rural resident on the countryside.
To understand the dynamic nature of the relationship operating between the visitor and the rural resident.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:

• identify and describe the components of a rural community;
• examine the issues that impact upon and affect rural communities;
• identify the impacts of recreation in the countryside;
• identify the factors that influence people's use of the countryside for recreation;
• identify the survey methods available to investigate rural communities and countryside recreation.

Visitor, resident, place, making things happen;
The rural community: identity, issues, players/organisations, change and response, analysis, initiatives
The visitor: motivations, attitudes, behaviour, the visit, impacts, management techniques.
