Brief description
An intensive introduction to the Spanish language. consisting of:

Language classes: 2 hours per week
Conversation class: 1 hour per week
Language Laboratory: 1 hour per week
CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning): 1 hour per week

In Semester 2 students will also have a translation class which alternates with practical work based on the television programme Isabel.

Students follow the course book: Zenia Sacks Da Silva: Beginning Spanish: A Concept Approach which is a fully integrated course combining audio tapes and is complemented by multimedia computer programmes and a wide variety of instructional and entertaining videos.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should have

1) an ability to communicate both in spoken and written Spanish
2) a sound grasp of the structure of the Spanish language
3) a relatively extensive Spanish vocabulary
