Aims and objectives
Aims:
The module aims to:
-
provide students with an understanding of the practical and theoretical issues arising from the exhibition of objects in the museum environment
-
introduce many of the practical skills required for producing an exhibition: from the initial stages of the documentation and care of collections through to exhibition design - including the production of labels, texts and posters
-
introduce accessions procedures in relation to an acquisitions policy
-
discuss role of computers in the museum
-
consider interactive display, multi-media, education and outreach
Objectives:
By the end of the module the student will be able to:

assist in the curation and design an exhibition incorporating objects from the University’s collections - working to a specific brief, a deadline and within a limited budget

monitor the museum environment
-
assess the role of the Conservator: i.e. conservation versus restoration
