Brief description

Final year students motivate their own projects in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Illustration or Photography with the emphasis being placed on both personal expression and the need to make a more public statement as a professional. The work produced will be designed to form an exhibition.

Aims:

The module aims to:

inculcate an awareness of criteria determining a coherent body of exhibitable work
facilitate students in the professional preparation and installation of the exhibitable works
develop a personal, individual, and imaginative response to subject matter
facilitate students in the acquisition and refinement of appropriate technical dexterity and stylistic concerns
help students produce a body of work that demonstrates conceptual and technical coherence, and the ability to sustain a commitment to subject over a period.
encourage students to possess a developed awareness of past and contemporary art relevant to their work
stimulate a productive response to work
challenge the student to go beyond the bounds of the module/course’s expectations
encourage students to acquire knowledge of issues, theory, and ideas pertaining to their work
enable the students to articulate verbally the criteria by which the body of work is made and should be judged
develop the students analytical and diagnostic prowess
challenge students to take risks and risk failure
enable students to define a field of action

By the end of the module you are expected to possess:

a coherent body of exhibitable work
a comprehension of the criteria by which that work has been selected
a professionally prepared and hung small-exhibition
a substantial and coherent body of work that reflects the personal, imaginative, and individual vision or intent of the student
technical dexterity and style appropriate to intent
a practice informed by the theory, ideas, and the exemplars of past and present art, as appropriate
a daring and intellectually and intellectually challenging body of work
a thorough and communicable understanding of their work
