Brief description


This module will provide students with the understanding and skills to implement the techniques involved in producing graphical systems as found in virtual reality systems and computer games.

Aims


The module, building upon prior learning obtained through study of module CS32110, will specifically address skills and techniques of relevance to the implementation of interactive multimedia systems.

  1. Introduction - 3 Lectures

  2. An overall introduction to the module and a description of typical interactive multimedia systems. A presentation of a representative selection of typical existing systems and their charcteristics.

  1. System Development Platforms - 3 Lectures

  2. Typical development platforms and their facilities.

  1. Modelling of Objects - 3 Lectures

  2. The modelling of objects within modern interactive multimedia systems.

  1. Object Interaction - 6 Lectures

  2. The issues associated with the movement of objects within interactive multimedia systems and in particular, interactions between such objects. Object collision and its detection and the computational complexity of handling such issues.

  1. Artificial Intelligence Techniques - 7 Lectures

  2. The application and role of Artificial Intelligence techniques as applied to interactive multimedia systems.
