General description

This module introduces and develops the basic concepts of Classical Hydrodynamics and provides a framework for a modern appreciation of Fliud Mechanics.

Aims

To provide the basic framework for a modern appreciation of Fluid Dynamics. To introduce the basic concepts of Classical Hydrodynamics. To explain how mathematical modelling of fluid motion can help in the understanding of certain real world phenomena such as metereology and aerodynamics.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, a student should be able to:

Syllabus

1. Basic concepts.
2. Eulerian and Lagrangian referee systems.
3. Primitive concepts -- acceleration, pressure, density velocity.
4. Basic equations of fluid motion.
5. Foundations of classical hydrodynamics.
