The major project will be based on an in-depth study of the application of rheology to an industrial flow process. Case studies from industry will be considered. Some typical examples are journal bearing lubrication, wire coating, process modelling of fibre-reinforced materials and extrusion in the food processing industry.
Aims
This module will provide students with an opportunity to make an in-depth study of the application of rheology to an industrial flow process. The project will involve a literature review and include experimental or computational work or possibly a combination of the two, related to the flow being studied.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to
Perform a detailed and relevant literature review
Summarise the current state of the art in their chosen field
Plan and execute an experimental and/or computational course of work related to their project
Summarise the results of their work and its implications
Highlight the outstanding issues in their chosen field of study.
