The module revolves around the assignment which involves a major planning issue and public enquiry exercise. The lectures support students in this assignment by updating the planning legislation from the previous year; explaining the process of objecting to local plan or major development proposals; providing in-depth tutorials with experts to discuss individual progress on specific planning issues; explaining how to present evidence and undertake cross-examination for a public enquiry.

A visit is made to a planning enquiry, and briefings are given by countryside officers and consultants who have appeared in enquiries.

Aims of the module

To evaluate in depth one planning issue that impacts upon the countryside following planning procedures involving a formal written objection and appearance at a public enquiry.
