Brief description
At the same time as extending life painting skills, a greater emphasis is placed on personal experience, where appropriate, on the use of the figure within the students' work.
Aims:
The course aims to:
-
provide a course for studies in life painting at Level 3 giving further experience in working from the life model and to enhance the student's knowledge of the concepts and processes of life painting
-
to assist the student in developing an approach to the figure which applicable to his/her other studio work
-
to further develop an understanding of the way that different methods of and approaches to painting can be used as a means of fully exploring the potential of the nude as a subject
-
provide a context in which the student has scope for the personal development of concepts and techniques within a supportive environment
-
foster a creative and innovative application of technical facility through the development of a personal programme of studies that arises out of previous experience in the life class
-
develop a comprehension of the continuing relevance of historical and contemporary techniques of and approaches to figure painting and how they may be adapted
Objectives
By the end of the course the student will possess:
-
an advanced knowledge of the processes of life painting
-
a personal approach to the figure which is relevant and applicable to his/her other studio work
-
be aware of the role that life painting has in contemporary art practice amongst artists in this country
-
an analytical and critical approach, and take initiative in assessing the work, defining problems, and devising a plan of action based upon that assessment
-
investigate the applicability of a variety of the different technical solutions and drawing media explored in the process of life painting
-
develop innovative and challenging approaches to rendering the subject matter
-
maintain a high level of motivation, commitment and productivity.
