Learning outcomes
Typically, upon completion of this module a student will be able:
To demonstrate a clear understanding of theatre practice in India, Japan and China.
To apply methodology and vocabulary relevant to issues of discussion regarding Indian, Japanese and Chinese theatre.
To relate their direct experience of Asian performance to the theories discussed.
Content
Three two-hour sessions each on Indian, Chinese and Japanese drama and theatre: historical surveys, theatre aesthetics, focus on one text each
Aims
To develop an understanding of theatre practice in India, Japan, and China;
To develop methodology and vocabulary relating to relevant theories and practices of Asian theatre;
To gain direct experience of one aspect of Asian theatre through a workshop with an Asian performer.
