Learning outcomes
This module builds on EL10310 and the learning outcomes are similar. The students' knowledge of issues in contemporary sociolinguistics will be extended.
Brief description
This module follows on from EL10310, and normally only students who have completed that module successfully will be allowed to take this second module.
This module will continue the study of the link between social factors and linguistic usage and will include topics such as Language and Nation, the development of English in its socio-historical context, and the spread of English in the Celtic countries.
The course will be taught in Semester 2 by means of one lecture per week and three seminars per semester.
