Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, students will have developed an understanding of three of Brecht's major plays. They will also be able to discuss in an informed manner the ideological and socio-political framework in which they were written. They will also be able to define 'Epic' Theatre.

Brief description

This module deals with three of Brecht's major plays and a selection of his critical writings. Brecht's ideological commitment to Marxism will provide the sociopolitical framework within which his works will be discussed. The designation 'Epic' Theatre will be defined within the context of Brecht's theory and practice.
