Learning outcomes

After completing this module students should be able to :-

outline the aims and objectives of geological and geomorphological conservation

summarise the role of statutory and voluntary bodies and their place in geological and geomorphological conservation

explain the management objectives for integrity and exposure sites

critically appraise the management techniques used to maintain the range of different geological and geomorphological sites

evaluate strategies for conserving dynamic and active process geomorphological sites

design and produce a site interpretation panel for a site of importance to geological/geomorphological conservation

present an oral presentation explaining the aims, content and design of a site interpretation panel

Aims

The aim of this module is to introduce to students the rationale, methods and concepts applied to geological and landscape conservation. This will be achieved through lectures, practicals, seminars and fieldwork. Each student will undertake an individual project as part of the module. This project will involve the construction of a poster displaying a site interpretation panel for a site of importance to geological and/or landscape conservation. Each student will also give a seminar presentation based on their poster explaining its aims, content and design.
