Assessment	Semester Assessment	Course Work: The module is assessed on the basis of a written thesis plan and chapter outline (80%) and an oral presentation of this plan to human geography staff and postgraduate students (20%).	100%
	Supplementary Assessment	Students will have to resubmit any component of the above which they fail to complete to a satisfactory standard.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, students will be able to

demonstrate an understanding of the issues involved in planning a 20,000 word Masters thesis

provide a detailed timetable and schedule of work regarding that thesis

be able to formulate research questions and relate these to suitable methodologies

be able to situate their own enquiries within broader sets of philosophical and conceptual debates in Human Geography

articulate these knowledges through one-to-one discussion with a supervisor

given an oral presentation on the content and timetable of their Masters thesis.

Brief description

The aim of this elective module is to provide students with the skills necessary to undertake their Masters thesis. It will enable and encourage students to link their theoretical and methodological knowledges to empirical questions. This will be achieved through a combination of individual meetings with a named thesis supervisor and presentations made to human geography staff and postgraduate students.
