Learning outcomes

Students who follow the module should have a good grasp of three major texts of the Renaissance and Golden Age periods in Spain. They should be able to appreciate the significance of these texts both in terms of the age in which they were written and in the wider sense of their contribution to the development of Spanish literature.

Brief description

A study of four classical texts from the Medieval and Golden Ages: the Cid, the Celestina, the Quijote and La vida es sueno.

In this module students have the opportunity to read and familiarise themselves with three great 'classics' of the Renaissance and Golden Age periods. In them we find three of the most fascinating and archetypal characters in world literature - the Celestina, Don Quijote and Segismundo - who come to life, comically or tragically, through the imagination of Spain's greatest writers whose influence on the modern period has been immense.
