Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to ...
1. Describe the role of the sport and exercise psychologist and recognize relevant ethical issues in professional work
2. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the key theories and concepts in sport and exercise psychology ( such as adherence, arousal, goal setting, imagery, motivation, performance profiling, stages of change models)
3. Identify how psychological factors influence physical performance and the basic means by which they can be managed
4. Examine the influence of physical activity on psychological well-being
5. Present orally on a relevant topic and produce an abstract of the presentation
Aims
This module aims to introduce students to the underlying theories and concepts in psychology relevant to group and individual behaviour and performance. Awide range of sport and exercise situations will be considered to demonstrate application to
practical situations.
1. Introduce students to key theories and concepts in sport & exercise psychology
2. Provide understanding of the effects of psychological factors on physical performance
3. Provide understanding of the effects of participating in physical activity on psychological health and well-being
4. Develop skills in oral and written communication
Brief description
This module aims to introduce students to the underlying theories and concepts in psychology relevant to group and individual
behavour and performance. A wide range of sport and exercise situations will be considered to demonstrate application to practical situtations. The module will consider how psychological factors can affect performance and how participation in physical activity can inflence health and well-being at all ages in life.
