Learning outcomes

Typically, upon completion of this module, the student will be able:

- To show an understanding of the structure and logistics of all aspects of the theatre production process.
- To make appropriate artistic choices and decisions concerning the production within the conceptual framework provided by the project director.
- To conduct extended individual and group rehearsals.
- To notate and document the directorial procedure, and be able to present such documentation to the peer-group.

Aims

- To develop and deepen students' understanding of the directing process through close observation of and participation in a designated staff-directed project.
- To provide students with opportunities for more advanced directing practice, paying particular attention to the role of the design and technical team in the production process.
- To take individual responsibility for organising and executing individual and group rehearsals, within the conceptual framework provided by the project director.
- To enable students to analyse and theorise their own individual experience of the directing process.

Content

Students will be assigned as assistant directors to one of the third year productions. They will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the production from pre-planning to final performance, and to be given opportunities to organise and execute their own rehearsals within the framework and conception of the project.
