Learning outcomes

By the end of this module students should have
- gained an awareness of the themes relevant to the period of post-war recovery in Italy from 1945 up to the years of crisis at the end of the 1960s.

- furthered their knowledge of the political situation in Italy after World War II, the re-building of the economy, industrialization and its effects, internal migration, social changes such as the rise of consumerism and problems of alienation

- developed an appreciation of literature as a valid vehicle for socio-political comment.

Brief description

A study of cinematic interpretation of several post-war Italian novels, studying the relationship between film narrative in the 1950's and 1960's.
