Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Students will have a good grasp of what went into the flowering of Romanticism in Spain, with a grounding in the events and works of the period of the Peninsular War and a closer study of the more significant achioevements by major poets later in the nineteenth century.

Aims

After charting the emergence of a Romantic sensibility in Spain (Cadalso, Goya, Melendez, Quintana), the module focuses on
the movement's brief success in Espronceda (Rivas and Larra) and its more meaningful if belated triumphs in Becquer and
Rosalia.
