Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should typically be able to:
- recognize a range of literary genres and demonstrate an understanding of how they work
- demonstrate an ability to write in a range of forms and genres
- demonstrate a developing critical awareness of their own writing practice
- demonstrate an ability to express themselves clearly in writing and in speech
Brief description
This module aims to familiarise students with contemporary published forms ranging from the critical (the review), and the creative (the short story and the poem) to the critical-creative (the feature article). The module gives students opportunities to study selected contemporary examples and try their own hand.
Content
This module is taught in weekly two-hour workshops over one semester.
Weeks 1 - 2, The Book (or Film or Theatre or Music) Review
