Brief description

This module is designed to encourage and enable students to practice and develop a range of study skills. It is taught over two semesters and is only available to students pursuing the degree schemes in Business Economics (L112) and Business Finance (N310) for whom it is compulsory.

Coursework:
a) Eight study topics divided equally between EC10510 (Semester 1) and EC10610 (Semester 2). Ech topic forms the basis of a (non-assessed) tutorial presentation by class members.
b) Three assessed essays (two in Semester 1 and one in Semester 2).
b) An assessed report to be presented in Semester 2 relating to a topic of current interest.

Aims

This first year module provides study skills support to complement the teaching programmes for the two Economic Principles modules; EC10510 (Semester 1) and EC10610 (Semester 2). It provides close and regular supervisory contact with students enabling them to practice and develop a variety of skills with respect to basic research, communication and presentation, both individually and in groups, via class topics, essays and a report.
