Learning outcomes
The module is designed to facilitate the student in uncovering and exploring the issues of law and policy in the UK in protecting
the environment against damage and degradation by pollution and in developing a critical analysis of the current UK law and
policy relating to the control of pollution.
Brief description
The law of pollution forms a significant part of the legal response to the demands of environmental protection. It represents an
attempt to reconcile the forces of environmentalism and economics and the imperatives of justice and fairness which converge
at this point. The course will consider the legal regulation of pollution, and its rectification, in relation to the environmental media
of Air, Water and Land. Throughout the course the role of the regulatory authorities, the public and voluntary organizations will
be considered. The enforcement of environmental law is also an important issue for discussion.
