Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. to take the ideas which are explored in their art history and practice, and museum studies, into the area of gallery education
2. extend the students' communication skills
3. utilise and combine creative and practical skills, art appreciation and art history
4. deliver workshops to small groups of school and college students
5. be confident in dealing with members of the public, public speaking, etc
Relation to Assessment:

The assignment is designed to assess the students? level of comprehension of the place of gallery education in the museum context, the issues that surround contemporary practice, and the role of the National Curriculum. The project allows students to utilise their practical skills, improve communication skills, and to deliver workshops in the professional environment.
Brief description
This module provides a practical grounding in art gallery education. It will take place in the Arts Centre, the School of Art, Ceredigion Museum, National Library of Wales and in participating schools. Students are introduced to the various forms of education delivered by practising artists in art galleries, museums, schools and community projects, etc. The aim is to help prepare students for a career as a professional practising artist by a practical and interactive programme. Art Practice students take the ideas which are explored in their own work into the area of gallery education and are encouraged to communicate both their own work, and that of other artists, to an audience of varied age, background and ability.
Aims
1. provide a practical grounding in art gallery education
2. study the various forms of education delivered by practising artists in galleries, museums, schools and community projects, etc
3. help prepare students for a career as a professional practising artist
4. encourage the students to develop strategies to communicate both their own work, and that of other artists, to an audience of varied age, background and ability
5. examine the role of workshops, residencies, and gallery talks within a museum or gallery's education programme
6. introduce the National Curriculum for Art in Wales
