On completion of this module students should have:

1) a knowledge of key Spanish literary movements from the traditional ballads to modern times
2) specific knowledge of three key Spanish texts

Brief description

This module offers an introduction to the key themes and perennial topics of Spain as found in her literature, history and art. Material for much of the module is provided in a bi-lingual booklet (obtainable from the European Languages Office) while three artists - El Greco, Velazquez and Goya - are studied via slides. One text is studied in detail : Ramon Sender, Requiem por un campesino espa?ol (Destinolibro), which must be obtained either from the Campus Bookstore or Galloways, Pier Street. The class meets for a weekly lecture on Fridays and for seminars as indicated below (15 meetings in all).
