Aims

The project may give students the opportunity to study a chosen topic or theme in depth. The study is linked to a taught module.

Content

Students are allowed to turn up to two single (10 credits) level 3 modules into double modules by writing a linked project essay. However, this option can only be exercised in respect of one module in a student's 2nd year and, in the third year, only for one module per semester. The project essay must be related to problems, techniques or sources raised by the module to which they are attached. They will provide an opportunity for students to deepen or strengthen their grasp of these problems, techniques or sources. Approval of essay topics or themes must be obtained from Module Co-ordinators beforehand. In length, the completed essays must not exceed 5,000 words, or about 20 pages of double-spaced text. The date for their submission and full details of the regulations governing project essays, including details of how they should be presented, will be provided to all students at registration in September.
