The Module will then look at four case studies:
The Module will conclude by assessing civil conflict at the micro- and macro- levels.
Problem_solving | Independent project work and problem solving will be one of the central goals of the module; the writing of essays will encourage independent research skills and problem solving. Seminar presentations also help develop independent project skills. | ||
Research skills | The writing of an essay will reflect the independent research skills of the student. Locating and writing up results will also facilitate research skills. Research preparation for a seminar presentation will help to develop independent project skills. | ||
Communication | Students will learn how to present their ideas both verbally and in writing and how to assert themselves. They will learn to appreciate the importance of good communication. They will learn how to focus their argument and consider only information which is relevant to their argument. | ||
Improving own Learning and Performance | Self management is encouraged but with assistance from the module convenor and fellow students. Students are encouraged to improve learning and performance by undertaking research, finding useful information sources and using their initiative. | ||
Team work | Seminars will consist in part of small group discussion where students will be obliged to discuss as a group the core issues related to seminar topics. Such classsroom debates and discussions are a vital component of the module. | ||
Information Technology | IT skills will be developed as all work completed is to be word processed. Students will also be expected to search for information on the web as well as using electronic sources (such as BIDS and OCLC). | ||
Personal Development and Career planning | Transferable skills will be developed in the form of verbal and presentation skills, the ability to take on a project and plan it , research for it, develop and hone and present it and to see it through to completion. |
