Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. demonstrate a deeper knowledge of a specific subject area
2. locate, select and analyse information relevant to their topic
3. be proficient in the use scholarly conventions appropriate to academic writing in Museology and Art History or Art Theory
4. plan a well-structured exploration of a museum / material culture topic
The dissertation provides the opportunity to assess the students' ability to locate, select and analyse information for an extended period and in depth; planning a well-structured exploration of a museum or material culture topic (outcomes 1-4)
Brief description
The dissertation provides the opportunity for in-depth academic study, to investigate a subject or topic concerned with an aspect of museum studies and/or material culture.It can have a historical, sociological, cultural or theoretical approach. Dissertations require a well-structured methodology capable of sustaining a scholarly approach.The use of primary source material from Aberystwyth and/or other collections is encouraged. The dissertation should normally grow out of a particular museum studies module (or group of related museum/art history modules) that the student is taking or has taken.
Aims
1. to provide an opportunity for research at undergraduate level
2. enable students to undertake an in-depth examination of specific subject or topic related to their previous or current studies under supervision
3. apply and extend academic skills learned in AH20410 Professional Practice for Students of Art and Art History
4. offer an applied and prolonged experience in self-directed and supervised investigative study
