Brief description

This module is designed to give students an insight into organizing and managing an equestrian event. It will give students the opportunity to organize an equine event or competition and will include topics such as selecting a venue, marketing and identifying both physical and human resources required.

The module will include:
Planning, marketing and running an event
Identify suitable venue for: Dressage, show-jumping, showing, Lecture demonstrations, and Horse Trials.
Health and safety requirements, risk assessment
Importance of marketing
Prepare a draft marketing plan
Record-keeping
Preparation of schedules
Examining basic financial documents
Legal issues
Public relations: how to promote the event and seek sponsorship.

Module Skills

Problem_solving Students will be required to plan and organise a particular equine event. This will involve booking the venue, arranging for publicity, financial management, dealing with organisational problems and any that might occur during the event.  
Research skills Assignment project will require students to research funding, health and safety issues and legal requirements for running a public event  
Communication Students will be expected to communicate in a variety of ways with sponsors, competitors, judges, press and the public.  
Team work Fundamental requirement of planning a successful event  
Application of Number Students will need to keep physical records of ticket sales, disbursements and receipts  
Personal Development and Career planning Organising any equine event is a key component for working within the industry
