Brief description

This module offers an introduction to the key themes and perennial topics of Spain and Latin America as found in her literature and history:

1. Islamic Spain and the Reconquest: Ballads of the Reconquest
2. The age of discovery and Spain as a world power
3. The Picaresque: Lazarillo and the origins of the novel
4. The age of Independence in Latin America
5. Revolution and Democracy in Latin America
6. The modern Latin American novel
7. 1800-1939: The loss of empire through to the Spanish Civil War
8. Modern Hispanic literature
9. Federico Garcia Lorca
10. The rural dramas of Garcia Lorca: Yerma
11. Literary Analysis of Yerma
