The projects typically involve developing a piece of software from an initial statement of requirements through market analysis, costing, specification and design stages, to successful implementation, testing, and product evaluation. Some projects may include a hardware element.
Projects are normally chosen in consultation with the MEng coordinator and/or the potential supervisor.
The purpose of the SEM9060 project is to give students the opportunity to bring together the practical skills and theoretical understanding that they have acquired, by developing a complete product from the stage of specifying requirements through to demonstrating that the product does indeed satisfy those requirements. This process involves market analysis, producing appropriate documentation, including documentation of the design decisions made, and product evaluation.
2. Written Material
Various written material giving guidance on carrying out the project, assessment issues, and the project submission is provided via the department webserver. Students are expected to spend perhaps twenty hours in an average week on the project and to see their supervisor once a week. This course is assessed on the written report submitted by the student. Students will also be required to participate in a 'defence' which will involve a presentation. a demonstration and a period of questioning. This will account for 5% of the assessment.
Dates for submission and the defences will be arranged by the MEng Coordinator.
