Learning outcomesOn successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Critically evaluate best practice in the application of records management principles and procedures.
Formulate and evaluate approaches to assessing organisational needs and developing control over records systems.
Assess the requirements for active and semi-active records management.
Critically appraise the level of compliance with theoretical best practice within their own workplace.
Formulate recommendations for the future development of records management within their own workplace.
The module will provide distance learning students, working within the records and information management field with the opportunity to develop and apply the theoretical skills learnt through previous modules to the practical context of their own organisation.
The module reviews principles, standards, and best practice in the records management field, including the International Standard ISO 15489 and the DIRKS methodology, and provides guidance on producing an assessment of workplace practice against these. Generic guidance will also be provided on the presentation of professional reports and associated documentation.

|| Preparation for coursework will involve a review of best practice, involving information gathering techniques and summative skills. |
