Brief description

The module will use a largely task-based approach. Students will raise their critical awareness of linguistic features, including grammar and lexis, at an advanced level through analysis of a range of spoken and written authentic texts. The principles will be initially intoduced through teaching/presentation, but further developed and extended by students through their reading and through specific project tasks that focus on genre and discourse observations and analysis. They will then move into a phase of discourse production where tasks are designed to mobilise and measure learning.

The knowledge, and skills gained through this module will enable you to become a more efficient communicator within the social and academic community. You will gain a greater understanding of how language works and will develop higher level language skills which will transfer to other areas of your studies. You can expect to improve your ability to study, discuss and present written assignments.
