They will also have gained an insight into the problems created by the Algerian War (1954-1962) and its consequeces.

Brief description

The aim of this course is to study the reactions of some major French writers of the twentieth century to the European and colonial conflicts which brought France to the point of war. The texts will be studied as works of literature or dramatic productions in their own right as well as for their value in providing their authors' experience of war and their proposed solutions to conflict.
