Brief description

This module provides an introduction to Newtonian Fluid Mechanics.

Aims

To introduce the basic concepts of solid and fluid mechanics and to set up the governing equations for a Newtonian viscous fluid. To provide a number o exact solutions of these governing equations.

Content

  1. INTRODUCTION TO CONTINUUN MECHANICS: Including the distinction between Solids and Fluids.
  2. DERIVATION OF THE NAVIER-STOKES EQUATIONS FOR NEWTONIAN VISCOUS FLUIDS: Like water and air.
  3. SOLUTION OF FLOW PROBLEMS AND APPLICATIONS TO THE SCIENCE OF FLIGHT.
